This Toyota Sequoia came through our Los Angeles studio as a platform build — panel-by-panel prep stays the same across body styles — wash, decontaminate, align, install. The matte finish is the call when the owner wants the car to read low-profile under daylight and refuse to flash highlights at night. For this build, the factory gloss finish was converted into a matte surface using full-body protective film. That approach adds a noticeable visual change while keeping the underlying paint protected from impact, scratches, and long-term wear. On a large SUV with broad panels and minimal ornament, matte texture must stay uniform or the whole project loses discipline. The installation focused on clean seams, controlled tension, and wrapped edges where possible. The final effect is most visible across the hood and long rear doors, where the matte surface reduces glare and sharp reflection.

What we used on this Toyota

Premium 8 mil PPF — self-healing urethane with a ceramic-infused topcoat. Matte, gloss, and colour variants available; plotter-cut from a digital pattern for the exact body panel.

Why this finish was the right call

Clear paint protection film is the cleanest way to keep a factory finish exactly as delivered. No colour shift, no orange-peel, just a sacrificial layer between the rocks of LA freeways and the paint that came from the factory. Self-healing topcoat closes shallow swirl marks under heat — sun-warmed pavement, a hot wash, even a careful heat-gun pass at home.

Los Angeles is rough on paint in a specific way: the 405, the 101, and the 10 throw a steady stream of small debris at every windshield and front clip during commute hours. PPF is engineered for that exact threat profile, which is why almost every vehicle that leaves a leasing showroom in this city ends up under one.

What to expect after the install

PPF cure window: avoid pressure-washing the wrapped panels for the first 7 days. Hand-wash only for the first 30 days. Properly cared for, the film holds its self-healing properties for 8–10 years.
