This Mercedes-Maybach GLS600 came through our Los Angeles studio as a platform build — panel-by-panel prep stays the same across body styles — wash, decontaminate, align, install. Gloss keeps the factory-paint depth front-and-centre while the colour shift carries the look. Single-service builds like this one keep the install schedule tight and let the owner add the next layer later if the use case changes.
The owner of this Maybach GLS 600 wanted the roof, hood, mirror caps and upper rear quarters dropped to a deep piano black while leaving the factory two-tone body untouched — a top-only colour change instead of a full wrap. We installed gloss black Color Paint Protection Film across the upper panels so the new colour also protects the paint underneath from rock chips and UV fade.
Every edge was wrapped into shut lines and trim gaps with no visible seam from any standing angle. Color PPF outlasts vinyl on a sun-exposed roof and reverses cleanly if the next owner wants factory back. If you are weighing this against a full wrap, our Color PPF explainer walks through the trade-offs, and you can browse more Los Angeles wrap builds from the shop.
Color PPF lets the owner change the look of the car without losing factory paint underneath. Strip the film years later and the original finish is still the original finish — that is the entire point of choosing colour PPF over a wrap or a respray. The pigmented urethane is heavier than cast vinyl, holds sharper edges around shut-lines, and self-heals the same way clear PPF does.
In Los Angeles specifically, color PPF makes sense for two kinds of owner: the long-hold collector who wants a finish that survives a decade of garage time, and the short-hold lease driver who wants a colour shift today and a clean turn-in tomorrow. Both end up at the same spec sheet.
