About this build

This Infiniti QX80 came through our Los Angeles studio as a platform build — panel-by-panel prep stays the same across body styles — wash, decontaminate, align, install. Single-service builds like this one keep the install schedule tight and let the owner add the next layer later if the use case changes.

This full-size SUV was transformed with a liquid metallic grayish blue protective film that changes tone depending on angle and light. The material adds a fluid metallic character while still functioning as a real protective layer against chips and surface wear. Because the color is subtle rather than loud, the installation had to stay especially clean so the finish could read as intentional. in Los Angeles sun, the tone moves between steel blue and muted grey across the larger panels. The shift is most noticeable on the doors and rear quarter surfaces.

What we used on this Infiniti

Why this finish was the right call

Color PPF lets the owner change the look of the car without losing factory paint underneath. Strip the film years later and the original finish is still the original finish — that is the entire point of choosing colour PPF over a wrap or a respray. The pigmented urethane is heavier than cast vinyl, holds sharper edges around shut-lines, and self-heals the same way clear PPF does.

In Los Angeles specifically, color PPF makes sense for two kinds of owner: the long-hold collector who wants a finish that survives a decade of garage time, and the short-hold lease driver who wants a colour shift today and a clean turn-in tomorrow. Both end up at the same spec sheet.
