About this build

This BMW M5 came through our Los Angeles studio as a performance daily-driver build — the finish call usually hangs on whether the owner wants the car to read factory-spec or visibly customized once it leaves our bay. Gloss keeps the factory-paint depth front-and-centre while the colour shift carries the look. Multi-service builds are sequenced deliberately — one finish has to fully cure before the next one goes on top, so the schedule reflects that order.

This project paired a super gloss racing yellow exterior conversion with black protective film accents for extra contrast and impact resistance in key areas. Bright gloss colors leave no room for weak prep or uneven installation, so the surface had to be dialed in before the first panel went down. The darker protective sections also had to integrate cleanly with the yellow finish rather than look added on later. The visual balance comes from that contrast, with the strongest effect appearing across the front bumper openings, hood edge, and lower side sections.

What we used on this BMW

Premium 8 mil color PPF — self-healing urethane with a ceramic-infused topcoat. Matte, gloss, and colour variants available; plotter-cut from a digital pattern for the exact body panel. Pigmented top layer fuses paint protection with a colour change in one film, so the underlying factory paint stays untouched.
3M, Avery Dennison, or KPMF architectural cast vinyl — premium 7–9 year films, plotter-cut so every cut line lands inside a factory shut-line.

Why these finishes were combined

BMW builds with several finishes work when each layer is planned in sequence: each layer was chosen so the next one can sit on top without compromise.

What to expect after the install

PPF cure window: avoid pressure-washing the wrapped panels for the first 7 days. Hand-wash only for the first 30 days. Properly cared for, the film holds its self-healing properties for 8–10 years.
Vinyl wrap care: hand-wash with a pH-neutral shampoo, no automated brush carwashes. Expect 5–7 years of finish life on a daily driver, longer on a garage-kept build.
