Color PPF combines paint protection with a complete color change — in a single film. Self-healing, UV-resistant, and removable. Available in gloss, matte, satin, and specialty finishes.
Color PPF is a paint protection film that comes pre-colored from the factory. Instead of applying a clear protective layer over your paint and then a separate vinyl wrap for the color change, color PPF does both jobs in a single layer. You get full paint protection — rock chip resistance, scratch resistance, UV blocking — and a completely new color, all from one film.
This is not a gimmick. Color PPF uses the same urethane-based technology as traditional clear PPF, with color pigments embedded directly into the film. The result is a finish that looks like factory paint but protects like armor. And because it is a single layer rather than two stacked films, it sits flatter, adheres better at edges, and lasts significantly longer than a vinyl wrap with clear bra underneath.
The durability difference between color PPF and vinyl wrap is substantial. A quality vinyl wrap lasts 3 to 5 years before it starts to fade, shrink at edges, or lift in the California heat. Color PPF lasts 7 to 10 years. It is roughly 8 mils thick compared to vinyl's 3 mils, giving it far better impact resistance. And it self-heals — light scratches and swirl marks disappear with heat exposure, something vinyl wrap cannot do.
Available finishes include Gloss Black, Satin Black, Matte Black, Military Green, Chalk Grey, Satin Grey, Racing Red, Deep Blue, Pearl White, and a growing list of custom and specialty colors. Manufacturers like XPEL and SunTek release new shades regularly, so the palette keeps expanding.
How does color PPF compare to clear PPF? The protection level is identical — same self-healing, same UV resistance, same rock chip defense. The difference is that color PPF changes your car's appearance while protecting it. The trade-off is cost: color PPF film is more expensive than clear film because the colored material costs more to manufacture. Full body color PPF starts from $6,500 at our Van Nuys studio, while clear PPF full body starts lower. Partial color PPF — just the roof, hood, mirror caps, or accent panels — is also available if you want a two-tone look without committing to a full body change.
Color PPF is especially popular on Tesla, BMW, Porsche, and Mercedes vehicles. Owners who want a color change and paint protection without the compromise of vinyl wrap are choosing color PPF as the single best solution. It is fully removable without damaging the original paint, so leased vehicles and collector cars are good candidates too.
