KPMF is a smaller manufacturer than 3M or Avery, but they own a corner of the market: matte murdered-out wraps and color-shift specialty work. We started installing KPMF in 2020 when customers kept asking for matte colorways the American brands didn't ship — matte military green, deep matte storm grey, matte forest. After the first few installs, we kept it in the lineup permanently.

Why KPMF wins on matte

KPMF's K75400 Absolute Matte topcoat is structurally different from 3M and Avery matte film. The matte texture is finer and less "plasticky" up close, which is the most common complaint we get on matte wraps from other brands. Three reasons it works:

  • Tighter matte grain — the surface texture is finer; under bright LA sun the wrap reads as flat-paint matte rather than satin-textured film.
  • Color depth on dark mattes — KPMF Absolute Matte reads deeper than the 3M and Avery matte equivalents. Side-by-side comparison on a Lambo Urus made the difference visible.
  • Niche dark colorways — Absolute Matte Forest Green, Quantum Blue, deep storm greys — KPMF carries these specifically; American brands don't produce most of them.

Iridescent (color-shift) wraps

KPMF's K75400 Iridescent finishes flip between two or three colorways depending on viewing angle (KPMF officially calls these Iridescent — the trade everyone else calls color-shift or chameleon). We've installed:

  • Red-to-purple flip — most popular for Tesla / sport coupes.
  • Blue-to-green flip — favorite on Audi RS / BMW M.
  • Gold-to-pink flip — niche but striking on supercars.
  • Storm flip (multi-tone grey-to-blue-to-purple) — current 2026 trend on Lambo / Ferrari.

Color-shift wraps cost more than standard gloss because the multi-layer pigment construction is more complex. Plan on $1,000-2,000 premium over a standard gloss color of the same vehicle size.

When KPMF is the wrong call

Two situations where we'd steer you to a different brand instead:

  • Standard gloss black or gloss white — 3M 2080 Series is cheaper and equivalent. KPMF's gloss is fine but you don't get a meaningful upgrade.
  • Maximum gloss-finish replicating paintInozetek Super Gloss reads closer to factory paint at close range.

KPMF warranty + sourcing

KPMF's manufacturer warranty for the K75400 Series is up to 7 years vertical surfaces depending on the specific finish, with shorter horizontal-surface durability per their datasheet. Standard for premium-tier cast wrap film. We source through our distributor — common Absolute Matte colorways (Forest Green, Quantum Blue, deep-pigment matte black) we stock; specialty Iridescent colorways and niche shades we order per job, typically 7-10 days lead time before install can start. FAQ

Is KPMF actually different from 3M matte black, side-by-side?

Yes — visibly. KPMF matte black has a finer surface grain and reads as flatter under direct sun. We have side-by-side test panels at the shop on request. On a Lamborghini Urus where the customer specifically wanted "factory matte paint look," KPMF was the closer match.

How long does Iridescent (color-shift) vinyl last in LA sun?

Up to 7 years vertical surfaces depending on finish per KPMF's published datasheet, with shorter durability on horizontal panels (roof, hood). The Iridescent flip-color effect itself doesn't degrade over the durability period; the topcoat protects the multi-layer pigment from UV breakdown. Past the warranty period, the effect can soften slightly on the roof from continuous sun.

Can KPMF be removed cleanly?

Yes. KPMF uses a removable adhesive system similar to 3M's Controltac. Within the warranty period, the wrap heat-strips cleanly. Past 7 years, removal gets harder.

Why is KPMF more expensive than 3M for the same vehicle size?

Two reasons: material cost is higher (UK import + lower production volumes), and the colorways we install in KPMF are usually specialty (matte mil-spec, color-shift) which requires more careful install work. The price premium reflects both.

Do you stock KPMF or order per job?

Common Absolute Matte colorways we stock (Forest Green, Quantum Blue, deep matte black). Specialty Iridescent and niche shades we order through our distributor — typically 7-10 day lead time before install can start.
