Why PPF pricing varies so much
You'll see quotes ranging from $800 to $8,000+ for PPF in Los Angeles. That range is real, and it reflects genuine differences — not just markup. The three variables that drive price are: how much of the car you're covering, what film you're using, and who's installing it.
A front bumper-only install on a Honda is a completely different job from a full-vehicle wrap on a Lamborghini Urus. Comparing those prices without context is meaningless.
PPF pricing by coverage level
These are realistic ranges for Los Angeles, based on a mid-size sedan or SUV with standard clear PPF film:
| Package | What's Covered | Price Range (LA) |
|---|---|---|
| Partial front | Hood partial, front bumper, mirrors | $900 – $1,500 |
| Full front | Full hood, full bumper, fenders, mirrors, A-pillars | $1,800 – $3,000 |
| Full vehicle | Every painted panel | $4,500 – $8,000+ |
| Track package | Rockers, full hood, roof, full front | $2,500 – $4,500 |
Exotic or large vehicles (Urus, G-Wagon, Cullinan) add 30–60% to these figures. More surface area, more complex body lines, more film, more labor.
Clear PPF vs. Color PPF — the price difference
Standard clear PPF preserves your factory paint with an invisible film. Color PPF is a newer product that combines a full color change with PPF-level protection in one film — essentially replacing both vinyl wrap and clear PPF on the same panel.
Color PPF costs roughly 40–70% more than standard clear PPF for the same coverage. For a full vehicle, expect $7,000–$12,000+. The premium is real, but so is the result — one installation, one warranty, full protection and full color change.
Worth knowing: Color PPF is not the same as vinyl wrap with PPF on top. It's a single film with protection built in. Fewer seams, fewer layers, longer lifespan.
What drives labor cost
Film material is only part of the price. Labor is often 50–60% of the total, and for good reason — PPF installation on complex body lines takes real skill. A door handle, a curved bumper, a mirror cap: each one requires heat forming, stretching, and edge wrapping without lifting or silvering.
Shops that quote significantly below market are usually cutting corners on one of three things: film grade, panel disassembly (bumpers and trim removed vs. cut-in), or cure time. All three affect the end result and longevity.
What to ask before you commit
- What film brand and grade? (Llumar, STEK, Suntek, Xpel are the standards)
- Do you remove bumpers and panels or cut-in at the edges?
- What warranty comes with the film and the installation?
- Can I see examples of your work on similar vehicles?
